The Light is Here!

I enter my last semester of grad school tomorrow. I can’t believe it. I’ve had people start asking for interviews at work and I’m freaking out. I don’t feel like I’m knowledgable enough yet to start this new role. But it’s here, the light can be seen!

I started the first floor bathroom reno over Christmas break after having my beloved noir hex tile since last year’s President’s Day sale. The bathroom looks great, though many finishing touches still need to be had. I’m struggling with the hand towel and what that will look like, but more importantly where it will go. I’m thinking a hook between the mirror and door since there is no good place for a towel rack (except for maybe above the toilet) and a towel ring just seems too big.

I’m envisioning a hanging planter in front of the window. A toilet paper holder under the window. A basket under the sink cabinet. Some art. No rug–I like the floor too much. Plus, smaller tile=more grout lines=less slippery :) Not to mention, in a bathroom that we never use the shower.

I really wanted an olive linen-like shower curtain but couldn’t find one.The graphite one I picked is a beaut, but makes inside the shower super dark., though I guess an olive colored one would do the same.

I wanted a cognac wooden elongated mirror, but couldn’t find one. I feel like I’ve settled, but I had little time and ultimately could return them if my dream piece is reasonable.

I spent more money ($70 a piece) than I ever wanted to on a mirror and shower curtain, but what gives?

The door still needs to re-hung. But I’m enjoying the view from the kitchen of the wood planks too much. Plus my #1 is out of town ;) I’ll apologize for the iphone photos at night now. See you in 5 months!!

State Champs

WOW, what a weekend. I over did it, that’s no secret. My baby brother, Kyle plays basketball for Covington Catholic High School. He’s a sophomore and starts JV. He started dressing for varsity near the end of the season. After they won region, the team headed to Rupp Arena in Lexington for the state tourney. SO exciting! I love basketball (go cards!) and Kyle playing high school ball is no different. I begged someone to come in at 3pm for me at work so I could head down to Rupp for the first round Thursday at 8pm.

Everyone was so excited to be here, from the students, to the players, to the parents. This was a text I recieved from my mom at 530pm:

She cracks me up. I was hoarse after the win from the screaming and cheering. Home at midnight and back to work on Friday, off at 3pm and headed back down to Lexington for the second round at 8pm. We met up with some friends Jeff, Andy, and Sara had cocktails and headed to the game. Another win!

Afterwards, we went to the local brewery, West Sixth, to finish watching the UK game. We got home around 2am. I was exhausted! I had planned a wedding shower for months at my house for Angie who is marrying my favorite cousin, Erik. Johnny and I are both in the wedding. I spent all day Saturday cleaning my house and preparing for the shower on Sunday at noon. Semifinals were held at 8pm on Saturday, and we headed back to Lexington.

Another awesome win. The JV team played for about the last 17 seconds because we were up more than 10 points. It was then back home we went. Sadly, I had to miss the finals as the shower was right in the middle of the 2pm game time. Thankfully, I was able to watch it online. I got up Sunday at 9am to pick up cookies my friend Emily made for the shower. Everyone came over at noon. Shower was great.  Turned the game on at 2pm for me and my family. My mom missed the shower and rightly so. By 4pm, Cov Cath had won their first ever state championship and I cried. A selfie:

These boys just played 4 games back to back on a college sized court. What an effort! A homecoming was celebrated at school at 7pm, and of course we went. The bus was escorted by firetrucks, police, and ambulances back home. It was incredible. Coach Ruthsatz handed each player and coach their state medal back at home.

So proud of those boys and their efforts. Seriously. Their hard work was rewarded on Sunday. I’m hoarse and tired, and way behind on school work, but goshdarnit, it was worth it! Thanks for the memories!!

Days after I post this, YHL (who I just adore) announces they are partnering with Target to sell a new collection of hooks and hardware. Target is killing it and I would be rich if they didn’t exist!

And everyone wonders how I have enough stuff to host garage sales.

My Jam

Two of my favorite things are coming together!

Target Emily Henderson

Seriously, this is amazing. Emily and Target are my jam and I cannot wait.

This past weekend was surely my most favorite in a looong time. It reminded me a lot of my Freshman years as a highschooler and seeing N*Sync and 98 degress for the ninth times! All giddy inside.

I had the privilege of meeting my two most favorite people idols (let’s all flash back 4 years to Kate Gosselin being my idol. I’ve made huge leaps since then!) John and Sherry Peterisk!! For those of you who don’t know them, they are my favorite bloggers. They are down to earth, funny!, cheap, and have awesome style! It was so fun! I was so anxious, scared, and excited!! I worried what I’d say when it was finally my turn. We got there early and waited in a looong line to meet them at a book fair in Cincinnati. They are coming out with their first book on Nov. 6th about DIY. This was their first stop of their book tour, and the first lucky 200 people there, got the first copies!!!!

We were one of the last people to see them before they left to give their talk. Afterwards, they signed more “book plates” since they ran out of books. A nice couple behind us in line took a photo for us. I was surprised to see these extra photos as we chatted with John and Sherry and they signed our books!! They also shot a couple photos of us with their DSLR Nikon, but silly us didn’t exchange emails, or names!

I still look at these pictures in disbelief!

We got second row seats during the talk and it was awesome. They talked about nothing we’ve read before on the blog, and not things in the new book. But instead, 9 lessons they’ve learned in showing their house some love!

The biggest thing that stuck with me, was a home isn’t made over night. Slow down! Don’t feel like you HAVE to have a room completed in a month by the time you’re having that party. The room will end up being done, but not to your liking. It will be filled with things you sorta like. In the long run, you’ll end up spending more money switching things out. Slow down and only buy and paint what you love, and that may take years! In the end, you’ll end up loving your room and it will be complete! Something that I need to remember because I’m guilty of it.

They took photos of us and instagramed us :)

They claimed to be so nervous and awkward, but I felt the same. It was such a lovely day, and they are such lovely people, I don’t have better words for it! Go buy the book! Sherry drew the heart around love! :) Ahhh!!

P.S. Another sweet fact about Sherry is that I’ve seen her wear that exact outfit before (not in real life). I’d be the first to get something new for MY FIRST BOOK TOUR. But that’s not them, they are so simple. And I’m striving for that. Did I mention she only has ONE bra. WTH?! In my dreams….

So that vacay I talked about in my last post that my #1 and #2 and I so badly needed. Yeah, not happening. Instead of laying on the beach today feeling the warm sun on face, I’m laying in bed w/ my #2, while my #1 is working.  Long story short, we got a 1am wake up text telling us all the things we had done wrong at dinner the night before, oh, and by the way, Oliver can’t come to FL. Punched in the face. Less than 48 hours before we planned to leave. UGH. Why do our vacations never happen the way we want or plan?!

My feelings are hurt, and so are my #1′s. We thought about making up and going, but I didn’t really think we could find dog boarding within a day. But truthfully, I just didn’t want to spend my vacation is someone else’s house who acted that way.

We weighed our options and decided to stay in town. Johnny felt stupid telling his work he’d now be working, and his friends in FL that he’d be working instead of visiting them in almost a year. I was lucky in that I had neither of those to do.  Since my vacation started 2 days ago, I’ve slept. Oliver knows we’re sad and has slept with me too. I hope he’s not sick, but instead just comforting me. Dogs are amazing.

We toyed with Hocking Hills. But $150 for one night, 3 hours away wasn’t appealing to me. I felt like we were trying to make up for our non existent vacay. So we’re staying put. Tomorrow we’re going to Findlay Market, then somewhere outside to play w/ the boy. Maybe making dinner and seeing a movie. Sunday shopping including Urban Outfitters and lunch. Nada for din, which we’ve never been. Reservations Monday at the Precinct to top it off.

Oh, my NKU documents have all been received and I can’t believe I could possibly be back in school by August 20th! Ahh! We’re thinking Brazil in August for a final sha-bang.

How long has it been since we’ve gone on a successful vacation together?

Random Thoughts

Is anyone wondering who Johnny is? Blue Hump By: Johnny & Lauren

I, myself, is wondering when he will appear too.

Today I swept the kitchen, living and dining rooms. Got on my hands and knees with warm water and vinegar and started scrubbing. They look marvelous. And Oliver once again, got a taste of more vinegar. Then, I vacuumed my car since there will be others in it in just a couple days as me and my best friends spend a weekend in Gatlinburg. Next, I stapled a few black garbage bags to the garage ceiling to protect the insulation. Ever since Johnny installed the garage door opener, bit by bit the insulation is falling down from the door constantly scrapping it. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Other news on the home front: our bedroom ceiling is leaking again. My uncle came a couple of weeks ago to patch old solar panels on our roof. There was a known leak there when we bought the house, but we hadn’t seen much damage until wind gusts and rain storms came. Two or so nights ago another thunderstorm-ish thing came through in the middle of January and the dry wall/ paint is bubbling a bit again. Boo.

OK Did anyone else see Seal on Ellen today? How sad him and Heidi Klum are separating. But it’s weird. He is wearing his wedding ring because it’s “a token of their connection”. He “loves and respects her” still. Then he sang some love song about being together forever. He told Ellen how shocked they were themselves just like everyone else, and how vows are not just words. Really?!

And that nail polish? Homosexual-ish,

Could It Be??!

Paula Deen has diabetes?! Noo. Can’t be true.
